What A Story

Destination Wedding Photographer and Videographer Udaipur

Quick Story Before We Get Into It

Three years back, a bride asked me something that stuck with me. We were at Jagmandir, golden hour, doing portraits. She stopped mid-pose and said “do you ever get tired of how pretty this city is?”

We laughed. Told her no. Years of shooting weddings here and Udaipur still catches me off guard sometimes. A random Tuesday morning, light hitting the lake a certain way, and I’m reaching for my phone like a tourist.

That’s why we do this. That’s What A Story in a nutshell.

We’re a destination wedding photographer and videographer Udaipur team. Husband-wife duo, actually. Met in art school, argued about cameras on our first date, been arguing about cameras ever since. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Destination Expert

The Udaipur Thing

People want to know why Udaipur. Why we moved here. Why we stayed.

Gonna be honest we didn’t plan it. Came here for one wedding back in 2016. A college friend’s sister was getting married at Amet Haveli. Small affair, maybe sixty people. We shot it as a favour, charged barely anything.

The light here is different. I know that sounds like photographer nonsense, but it’s true. Something about the lakes and the white buildings and the dust in the air everything looks like a painting. Especially mornings. Especially evenings. Even harsh noon sun has this quality you don’t get elsewhere.

As a destination wedding photographer Udaipur, you get spoiled. The backdrops practically photograph themselves. Your job becomes finding the human moments within all that beauty.

What We Actually Do All Day

Okay the practical stuff.

We shoot photos. We make films. We do both together, same team, same vision. Lots of couples hire separate photographers and videographers and then wonder why their wedding looks like it was documented by two different people. That’s because it was.

Photography side: Mostly candid, some posed when needed. We’re not gonna make you do those cringey fake-laugh poses or the one where the groom pretends to pull the bride’s dupatta. Unless you’re into that? Some people are. No judgment.

What we focus on instead your nephew sneaking a second gulab jamun. Your grandmother’s face during the vidaai. The moment right before your first look when you’re nervous and excited and trying not to cry. Those photos become the ones you frame.

Film side: Our destination wedding videographer Udaipur work has evolved a lot over the years. Started pretty basic just documenting everything, long boring edits. Now we make actual films. Narrative structure, emotional pacing, music that makes you feel things.

A good wedding film should hit different every time you watch it. First viewing, you notice the big moments. Tenth viewing, you’re catching your dad wiping his eye in the background. Fiftieth viewing yeah, some of our couples watch their films that much you’re just swimming in the feeling of that day.

Cinematic Wedding Videographer Udaipur — What That Actually Means

Here’s what we mean by it: your wedding film should feel like a short movie. Actual story. Beginning that hooks you, middle that builds, ending that lands emotionally. Music that wasn’t just slapped on randomly. Pacing that breathes knowing when to linger on a moment and when to cut.

Our destination wedding film Udaipur projects typically run 15-20 minutes for the full feature. We also do shorter edits  4-5 minute highlights for social media, same-day edits if you want something to show at the reception.

The couples who hire us as their cinematic wedding videographer Udaipur team usually mention that our work felt different from other samples they’d seen. More emotional. More real. Less like a music video, more like a documentary with heart.

The Venues We Know Too Well

Spend years as a destination wedding photographer and videographer Udaipur and you learn every corner of every major property. Some quick thoughts from experience:

Taj Lake Palace

The white palace in the middle of the lake. You've seen it in James Bond probably. It's even more stunning in person. Tricky to shoot though — everything's white, reflections everywhere. We've figured out the angles that work best. The boat ride there at sunset? Guaranteed tears from at least three family members.

Oberoi Udaivilas

Those famous reflecting pools. God, those pools. They're designed so perfectly for photos it almost feels like cheating. The whole property is absurdly photogenic. Great staff too, very helpful with logistics.

Jagmandir Island

Personal favourite honestly. Something about being on an island in the middle of the lake, city twinkling in the distance. Intimate feeling even with big guest lists. The approach by boat makes everyone feel like royalty.

Leela Palace

Newer property, super luxurious. Modern amenities with heritage aesthetics. The rooftop mandap setup they do is pretty incredible for sunset ceremonies.

RAAS Devigarh

This one's different. About an hour outside Udaipur, up in the hills. Very minimal, very architectural. Attracts couples who want something unexpected. The night photography opportunities here are unreal.

Chunda Palace, Fateh Prakash, Shiv Niwas

All solid options with their own character. We've shot multiple weddings at each.

Also done plenty of weddings at smaller havelis and homestays that most people haven’t heard of. Sometimes those intimate venues produce our best work. Fewer distractions, more focus on the couple.

Everything You Want to Know

01. Who runs What A Story anyway?
We are a destination wedding photographer and videographer Udaipur team with 10+ years of experience. Shot somewhere around 300 weddings at this point, maybe more. Stopped counting after 200 honestly.
Now we're a destination wedding photographer and videographer Udaipur team. Eight years in. Somewhere around 300 weddings? I stopped counting after 200 honestly.
02. Wait so you do photos & videos? Both?
Both. Same team handles everything.
I've seen so many couples hire separate photo and video people and then wonder why their wedding looks like it was shot by two completely different crews. Because it was. Different angles, different colour grades, different priorities. When we do both, everything matches. Same eye. Same taste. Your photos and your film feel like siblings.
03. What kind of photography style do you guys have?
Real moments over posed setups. That's the short answer.
Long answer we spend most of our time watching. Waiting. Your dad pretending he's fine when he's clearly about to lose it. Your college roommate laughing till she snorts. The quiet second before you see each other for the first look.We do posed stuff too. Family portraits, couple shots, the standard stuff every Indian wedding needs. But we keep it chill. No weird stiff poses. No "pretend to laugh at nothing" shots.
04. What makes Udaipur so good for wedding photography?
Okay so. Have you been here at golden hour?
The sun starts going down and everything turns this insane amber colour. The white palaces glow. The lake reflects it all back. Even the dust in the air catches light in this magical way. I've As a destination wedding photographer Udaipur you get spoiled fast. The city does half the work for you.
05. Which venues do you like shooting at?
Taj Lake Palace is the iconic one white marble floating on water, tricky to shoot but we've figured out the angles after doing it so many times. Oberoi Udaivilas has those reflecting pools that I could photograph forever, every corner built for wedding photos basically. Jagmandir you take a boat to reach, whole wedding on an island, makes everyone feel like royalty. RAAS Devigarh is different energy up in the hills, minimal and architectural, great for couples wanting something edgier.
06. Can you do shoots at multiple venues during one wedding?
Mehendi at a haveli. Sangeet at one palace. Wedding at another. Reception somewhere else. We've done weddings spread across four five different spots. We know this city really well by now. The shortcuts. Which roads jam up during season. How long it actually takes to get from Oberoi to Jagmandir with wedding traffic. We figure out logistics with your planner so there's no stress on your end.
07. What about pre-wedding shoot locations?
Tons of options.
Lake Pichola at sunrise soft light, water reflections, very dreamy. The old city ghats colourful, chaotic, full of life. Monsoon Palace up on a hill, panoramic views of everything. Random stepwells and narrow lanes great for couples who want something less obvious. We usually ask what vibe you're going for and then suggest spots. After eight years as a destination wedding photographer Udaipur team we've pretty much explored every corner of this city.
08. How do we actually book you?
Start with a call. Video usually. Sometimes just phone if that's easier. We want to hear your story. How'd you meet. What's your family like. What kind of wedding are you imagining. What excites you. What's keeping you up at night.
If it feels right for both of us, we send over a proposal. You think about it. Ask questions. We go back and forth a bit maybe. Once you're ready, a booking amount locks in your dates. Then we stay in touch leading up to the wedding. Check in about outfits. Discuss timeline. Visit your venue beforehand if we haven't shot there recently.
09. How early do we need to reach out?
Peak season October through February book as early as you can. Beforemonths ideally. I know that sounds intense but the good teams really do fill up fast.
Off season you've got more breathing room. Before months usually works fine. We've squeezed in last minute bookings when the calendar happens to be free but I wouldn't bank on it.
10. Do you travel outside Udaipur?
Yeah we do. All over Rajasthan Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer. Done weddings in Goa, Kerala, even a couple international ones. But real talk Udaipur is home. We know every corner here. Every weird light situation. Every venue's quirks. Our absolute best work happens in this city.
If you're planning somewhere else and our stuff speaks to you though, definitely still reach out. We can chat about it.
11. What if weather messes things up?
Here's the thing though we've been at this long enough that we adapt fast. Rain during outdoor pheras? We know which indoor spots at each venue photograph well. Harsh midday sun? We find shade and make it work. Clouds roll in during sunset portraits? Sometimes that soft diffused light ends up even better than direct golden hour.
12. How long before we get our photos and videos?
Photos — In weeks for the full edited set.
Films — In weeks for the feature length edit. Highlights might come a bit sooner.
Same-day edits — if you've booked one, you get it that evening at your reception.
We also post sneak peeks within a few days. Something to share while you wait for the rest.
Why so long? Because we're obsessive about the edit. Every photo gets looked at individually. Films go through multiple passes. This part is where okay work becomes great work. We'd rather take our time than rush it and regret later.
13. What do we actually receive at the end?
All your edited photos in full resolution. Usually somewhere between 75 to 150 images per event depending on what was happening. Extras if your package includes them pre-wedding photos, printed albums, parent albums, ceremony edits, extended cuts.
14. Do you make physical albums?
Thick lay-flat pages. Leather or linen covers. Archival quality printing that'll last your whole life. Album design happens after you get your digital photos. We put together a layout. You give feedback. We tweak it. Usually takes 2-3 rounds before everyone's happy. Parent albums available too. Smaller versions for gifting to family.
15. We're super awkward on camera. Help?
Join the club. Most people are weird in front of cameras. We're very used to this. Secret is we spend time getting you comfortable before any real shooting starts. Chatting. Joking around. Giving easy natural directions. Within fifteen twenty minutes most couples forget we exist.
Also half our shots are candids. Hard to be awkward when you didn't even know a camera was pointing at you.
16. Can you do those same-day edit videos for the reception?
Yes and honestly it's one of my favourite things we offer. So basically we shoot your morning prep and ceremony, then edit like maniacs while you're off doing other wedding stuff, and premiere a 3-4 minute highlight at your reception.
Guests absolutely lose it. There's always crying. It becomes this whole moment. Fair warning though needs extra team members for real-time editing. Let us know early if you want this so we can plan properly.
17. How do you get natural emotions without being annoying and in people's faces?
We move quiet. Use longer lenses so we're shooting from a distance. Avoid interrupting stuff that's happening naturally. Best compliment we ever get is when guests say "wait there were photographers? I didn't even notice."
Also helps that we learn about you before the wedding. Understanding your family, your relationship, what matters to you helps us know where to look when emotions are happening.
18. Do you do drone shots?
Where it's allowed yeah. Aerial footage of Udaipur is insane — the lakes, the palaces, the hills.
Some venues restrict it though. Security stuff. Heritage regulations. We confirm what's possible ahead of time. When drones are a no-go we find other ways to get those big wide establishing shots.
19. What makes a good cinematic wedding videographer Udaipur team different from regular video people?
Regular wedding videos are like... documentation. Long recordings of stuff happening. Shaky camera. Bad audio. Your uncle commenting on the paneer.
What we make is different. Actual films with structure. Beginning middle end. Music that hits emotionally. Pacing that keeps you watching. Our destination wedding film Udaipur projects run 15-20 minutes and couples tell us they've rewatched them dozens of times. That's the difference. You actually want to watch it again.
20. Real talk — why should we pick you over other Udaipur photographers?
Maybe you shouldn't honestly. Depends what you want. If you want very traditional, very formal coverage there's teams better suited.
If you want people who'll capture the real messy beautiful chaos of your day. Who'll make you laugh during portraits and sob during your film. Who know this city like the back of their hand because they chose to build their whole life here.
Only way to find out is to talk. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just a conversation about your wedding and whether we click.Worst case you waste thirty minutes on a call with strangers who love talking about weddings. Best case you find your destination wedding photographer and videographer Udaipur team.
