Wedding Photographer in New York
Look, Your Wedding Photos Better Be Good
You're getting married in New York. That already puts you ahead of most people. The city, the energy, the whole vibe it's unmatched.
But here’s the thing. You need someone who can actually capture it. Someone who gets the chaos and the beauty and everything in between.
That’s us. What A Story. Been shooting weddings around here since 2016. Started with basically nothing one beat-up camera, a tiny apartment in Astoria, and way too much ambition. Now we’ve got a whole team, better equipment, and honestly? We still get emotional when couples see their photos for the first time.
Your day is going to fly by. Like, blink and it’s over. Let us make sure you can hold onto it.
About What A Story
My business partner shoots his roommate’s wedding out in Williamsburg. Gets this one shot couple on a rooftop, Manhattan skyline behind them, the guy’s looking at his bride like she hung the moon.
The bride sees it later and literally starts crying. She says that’s exactly how that moment felt to her like, exactly.
That got us thinking. Wedding photography is supposed to do that, right? Make you feel something. Not just document that you were there.
So we quit our jobs. Probably should’ve planned better, but whatever. Bought cameras. Started taking any wedding gig we could get as a wedding photographer in New York. Learned on the fly. Made mistakes. Got better.
Fast forward eight years. We’ve shot 300+ weddings across the city. City Hall elopements where the couple shows up with two witnesses and that’s it. Giant weddings at fancy hotels with 400 people. Rooftop parties in Brooklyn. Garden ceremonies in Queens. We’ve pretty much seen it all.
We live here. Grew up around here, mostly. Know which trains run late (all of them, sometimes). Know the light at Bethesda Fountain around 6pm is ridiculous. Know DUMBO is packed with tourists on weekends but there are spots if you know where that stay quiet. Being a wedding photographer in New York who actually lives here means we’ve probably shot at your venue. Or at least we know someone who has and can tell us what to expect.

Our Wedding Photography Services
Candid Wedding Photography
You know those wedding albums where everybody looks stiff? Like they're being held hostage? Where the smiles are so forced you can practically hear the photographer going "bigger! bigger!" Yeah, we hate those. Our candid wedding photographer New York style is simple. We follow what's happening. Your sister fixing your dress in the bathroom. Your partner's face the second they see you. Your uncle who's had a few drinks giving the weirdest toast anyone's ever heard. The moment the DJ drops that song and everyone loses their minds. We'll pose you for some shots family photos, couple portraits, that stuff. But mostly? We just let you be yourselves and capture what happens. Way better photos that way.
Drone Wedding Photography
Aerial shots of NYC weddings are insane. Your rooftop ceremony with the whole city spread out behind you. Following you through the streets from above. Wide shots showing your entire reception setup from an angle nobody else sees. Our drone wedding photographer in New York package gets you those epic perspectives. Makes your venue look incredible. Gives you images that make your friends stop and go "wait, how'd you get that shot?" We handle permits, coordinate with your venue, all that boring stuff. FAA certified, insured, the whole deal. Know which areas we can fly in and which ones we absolutely cannot.
Pre-Wedding Photography
Your engagement shoot in Central Park. Walking around SoHo together. Getting coffee at that place where you had your first date. These pre wedding photographer New York sessions do two things. One, they start building your story give us context for the wedding album. Two, they get you used to being in front of the camera. By your actual wedding day, you forget we're there. Which is the whole point. Plus they're fun. Way less pressure than the wedding day. We walk, we talk, we take some photos. Easy.
Destination Wedding Coverage
Getting married upstate? Out in the Hamptons? Your family's place somewhere else entirely? We travel. Our destination wedding photographer in New York team has shot weddings all over New York state, up and down the coast, couple international spots too. Same gear, same style, just different location. Travel costs extra (obviously planes and hotels cost money), but we're reasonable about it.
Luxury Wedding Photography
Some couples want everything. Full team, fancy lighting setups, premium albums, wall prints, the works. That's our luxury wedding photographer in New York service. We bring extra photographers, use the absolute best equipment, spend way more time editing. The results are museum-quality images that belong on your walls. Costs more? Yes. Worth it if that's your thing? Also yes
Full-Day Wedding Coverage
New York weddings are long. Getting ready at 10am, photos around the city, ceremony at 5, reception until midnight or later. We stay for all of it. Our professional photographer in New York team knows that some of the best moments happen late. When people stop worrying about photos and just party. The dance floor at 11pm. That quiet second when you both finally sit down. Your grandmother showing everyone how it's done.
Why Choose What A Story
We Know How to Handle Light
New York throws everything at you. Dark churches. Bright outdoor plazas. Dim reception halls with terrible overhead lighting. Harsh sun in the middle of the street at 2pm.
We’ve shot in all of it. A lot. Know how to work with what we’ve got, when to bring our own light, how to make any space look good. Being the best wedding photographer in New York takes technical skill, not just nice cameras.
Your photos will look right. Properly lit, well exposed, professionally finished.
Our Equipment Is Legit
We’re gear nerds. Admitted. Multiple cameras, tons of lenses, lighting for any situation, backups for everything.
Why’s that matter to you? Because we’re ready for anything. Super dark ceremony? Got lenses that handle it. Want wide shots showing the whole scene? Covered. Close-up portraits? We’ve got glass that makes people look amazing.
Good gear in the right hands makes the difference between “that’s nice” and “holy crap, look at that.”
You Can Actually Relax
We direct you without being bossy. Guide you without making it weird. Get what we need while letting you enjoy your day.
Couples always say “We forgot you were even there.” Then they see their gallery and we somehow caught everything. That’s the goal.
We’re Local For Real
Looking for a “photographer near me“? We’re actually near you. Live in Brooklyn. Work all over the city. Know the neighborhoods for real.
We know Liberty Warehouse has gorgeous light but gets hot as hell in July. We know The Plaza is beautiful but has vendor rules you better follow. We know Prospect Park has stunning spots but also gets mobbed on nice weekends.
Local knowledge means we show up knowing what to expect. On time. Ready to work. Every time.
We Actually Deliver On Time
Some photographers take forever. Like, your first anniversary rolls around and you still haven’t seen your photos. That’s brutal.
We get sneak peeks to you within a week. Full gallery in 6-8 weeks. Because making you wait months feels wrong.
Need photos faster for some reason? We do rush delivery.
The What A Story Process
Discovery Call
We talk first. About your wedding, yeah, but also about you. How you met. What you're into. What kind of vibe you want. Helps us figure out if we mesh. Sometimes we don't, and that's fine. Better to know now than end up with a photographer whose style you end up hating.
Customized Proposal
After we talk, we build a package recommendation. Maybe you want our candid wedding photographer New York approach plus some drone stuff. Maybe you're doing something small and only need a few hours. Maybe you want the full luxury deal. We'll put together something that fits what you want and what you can spend. No pressure to buy stuff you don't need.
Pre-Wedding Planning
You book, we set up a planning call. Go through your timeline, venues, family stuff, shots you definitely want, any surprises you're planning. This is why our wedding days go smooth. We're never scrambling wondering what's next.
Engagement Session
Most packages include an engagement shoot. Usually we do this 2-3 months before your wedding. Gets you comfortable on camera. Lets us figure out how you move together, what works best for you. By your wedding day, being photographed feels normal instead of awkward.
Wedding Day Coverage
We show up early. Multiple cameras, extra memory cards, batteries charged, backup lighting ready. Then we shoot. Constantly. Moving around, finding angles, grabbing moments. Using natural light when it's good, adding flash when we need to. Making sure everything important gets documented.
Expert Editing
After your wedding, we go through thousands of images. Pick the best ones. Edit for color, exposure, make everything consistent. Retouch where it makes sense. Polish until it's perfect. Takes weeks because we're picky as hell. If the color's off, we fix it. If something distracting can be removed, we remove it. If the crop could be better, we recrop.
Final Delivery
You get a private online gallery. High-res images. Download them, share with family, post wherever, order prints whatever you want. Lots of couples order albums, wall art, and books for parents. We work with print labs that make your photos look incredible in physical form.
What Actual Couples Said
We talked to maybe eight photographers before What A Story. Everyone else felt super salesy. These guys actually listened. Asked about our relationship, what mattered to us, what we wanted to remember. Our wedding photos are incredible. They caught stuff we completely missed while it was happening. The Brooklyn Bridge shots are hanging in our living room and literally everyone who comes over asks who our photographer was. Best money we spent on the wedding.
Maya & Christopher
I literally work in photography. My standards were ridiculous. What A Story blew past all of them. The composition, the lighting, the editing flawless. This is professional photographer in New York work at the top level. I've sent them probably fifteen referrals since our wedding and I'll keep doing it.
Rachel & Thomas
Picking What A Story as our luxury wedding photographer in New York was our best vendor choice, hands down. The quality is unreal. When our album arrived, we just sat there going through it crying. They captured things we didn't even notice how my husband looked at me during our first dance, my father-in-law's smile, the sunset hitting our venue at the perfect second. These photos are heirlooms. We'll have them forever.
