Indian Wedding Photographers & Filmmakers in San Jose

Getting married in San Jose means having things happen at your pace. The city gives a South Asian wedding room to spread out: venues with grounds, space for four functions, and nobody moving you along. We know how the days here run.

Big Days, Slow Tidings in San Jose

For an Indian wedding that is unhurried, intentional and your own, San Jose is the place to be. Days where the clock is not the thing running your schedule, and what you brought to it is. We are here to make those the days you keep coming back to.

Why couples pick us

What We Bring to a South Asian Wedding

The goal in picking the right photography team for your South Asian wedding is to find someone who can give life to your visions. At What A Story, our teams have shot weddings across India’s traditions. We’ve recorded every flick of the wrist and captured every passing look over 10 years.

Our experience and our conviction to tell your story matter more to us than anything else. Give us a date, give us a vision board, or even just a couple of ideas, and we’ll put together a memory you can relive forever.

Unrehearsed, On Purpose

San Jose’s Candid Wedding Photography

Your candid moments are gone in seconds. Capturing them at the right time is a learned skill, and ten years of Indian weddings is where it comes from. The moments you didn’t even know happened are often the ones you end up framing. We love sharing them.

Shot in 4K, every event

Cinematic Wedding Films

The candids are great, and you’ll frame them for the rest of your life. But some moments only hold up with sound and movement behind them, and that is what the films are for. Our best work has always been the cinematic wedding films. We don’t lead with the technical side.

The most important thing to us is showing you exactly the vision you had in mind. A true story of your love, shot always in 4K, made with great love and greater skill in visual storytelling.

weddings we cover

Everything We’ve Loved Shooting

We’ve shot many traditions, so we know how each of them flows.

Telugu Weddings

From the fun of the Snathakam to the flower throwing of Talambralu, we know how they look best captured.

Tamil Weddings

The oonjal, the stepping on the grinding stone. We can sense the moment before it arrives, and we know exactly when to be ready.

Gujarati Weddings

Gifts for the Mameru and welcoming the groom with a ponkhvu, we know how the day unfolds.

Punjabi Weddings

We know that the moment a bride puts on her red chooda bangles is a thing of beauty, and that a hug during the Milni is warm and loving.

Muslim Weddings

A traditional nikah and the walima after it. We’re there for both, and we know where the fun comes in.

Christian Weddings

The church service, the minnu and the manthrakodi, and the reception that runs long after it. We know when the quiet parts come.

Setting the Scene

Four Venues We Come Back To

Most South Bay weddings run across two places: the ceremony at a temple or gurdwara, then the reception somewhere with a ballroom. San Jose has the largest gurdwara in North America, and we shot Harshita and Anvesh’s ceremony at Shiva-Vishnu in Livermore. These four are where the second half usually happens.

Luxury hotel for wedding venue - Signia by Hilton.

Signia by Hilton

Centrally located in San Jose, and a space that handles any wedding you throw at it.

Cinnabar Hills Golf Club

Away from the city’s noise, with long views of the hills and spaces that host both intimate and large gatherings.

Boulder Ridge

High in the Almaden Valley, with scenic views on every side. Good for a smaller ceremony with the people who matter most.

Premium Mansion for wedding - Winchester Mystery

Winchester Mystery House

A registered historical landmark with manicured lawns and architecture nothing else in the city has. Suited to a grand Indian wedding.

Pre Wedding Spots

San Jose, Before the Vows

Planning a pre-wedding shoot? These are the ones we use. Four of them need a permit, and we file it.

Across the South Bay

We’re always happy to travel for your shoots, no matter where you want to be.

Don’t see the place you wanted? Tell us where, and we’ll come to you.

  • San Francisco: An hour north on I-280. A lot of San Jose families have half their relatives up in the city, and we shoot both ends of that weekend.
  • Seattle : Two hours by air. Worth it if your pre-wedding is heading for snow.
  • Los Angeles : We’ve photographed a wedding at the BAPS mandir there. Worth a look if yours is heading south.

Pricing & Packages

We know from experience that each couple wants something different. Our packages depend entirely on what you want, which means every one is built for your wedding rather than picked off a list.

Our couples however, do tend to start at around $4,000 and can go up to $15,000 for their packages. Any travel charges, if applicable, are always set at the very beginning, before you sign any contracts. All our charges are quoted upfront.

Maternity, Baby Showers and Newborns

A wedding sits near the top of anyone’s best moments. But the best moments don’t end at weddings, they start there. For the life that comes after, we’re happy to put the same person on every step: maternity shoots, baby showers, gender reveals and newborn photography.

FAQs

01. Can we use a drone for aerial shots anywhere in San Jose?

Sometimes. A lot of the city is controlled airspace for the San Jose Mineta International Airport, so drone photography requires permits and FAA authorization in some spaces. We check your venue's airspace before the day and tell you straight if it is a no.

02. Can you photograph inside the temple during the ceremony?

Usually yes, though every temple is different. We’ve shot at Shiva-Vishnu in Livermore: shoes off, no flash near the fire, and the camera stays outside the mandap once the priest begins. We check each temple’s rules before the day, not on the morning.

03. Our ceremony and reception are at different venues. How do you cover both?

Normally. It is how most South Bay weddings run, and the part worth planning is the gap between them: who travels with you, who stays to shoot the room being turned around, and how long the drive really takes on a Saturday afternoon. We build the timeline around that gap rather than hoping it is short.

04. When do we get our photos and film?

2-6 weeks. Highlights come sooner than the full gallery, and the film takes longest. We tell you the dates at the time of booking rather than after.

05. Is a second photographer necessary?

For a full day, yes. One stays with you, one covers the families and the room. For a multi-day wedding with a baraat, three during the big events.

06. What's the weather risk for an outdoor wedding here?

Lower than most of California, but not zero. July and August afternoons get hot enough that you want shade for the ceremony. November through March is when you need a real rain plan, not a hopeful one. And late summer can bring wildfire smoke, which changes the light and sometimes the air quality, so an indoor fallback is worth having between August and October.
